Introduction on how to improve your understanding of harmony and chords on Ableton push
Harmony and chords is probably the most complex part of music, but this course will teach you some basic tricks to get you composing chord progressions straight away.
It s with the basic chord patterns in ‘key mode’ like circle progressions, diatonic progressions, 3rd and 4th patterns and more.
After we touch on progressions we look more in depth at chords and chord types like major, minor, 7ths and how these are constructed in key mode and chromatic mode.
Finally we demonstrate some tricks you can use for making chord progressions quickly using Ableton’s built in midi and Max/MSP effects.

Your Instructor
Robbie James is a multi-instrumentalist (flute, clarinet, saxophone and guitar) with a Bachelor of Music and Masters of Teaching. After studying jazz he became ed applying his theory and composition knowledge to production and ed using Ableton Live (and Push) to create music for film, games, theatre and more, including work in festivals like Melbourne Fringe, White Night, Canberra’s ‘You are Here’ festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival.
He currently is the the music technology specialist at the European Secondary School of Brussels where he teaches electronic production and composition using Ableton Live and Logic.
