Perhaps this is the case in the beginning, but as time goes on, we create new “mind maps” in our brain that connect to parts of our body. We are able to free ourselves and actually relieve our pain and suffering. If we make this practice a habit, we eventually become more adept with the mind while also creating great benefit for our bodies.
In these classes, Desirée and Andrew will show you how they train themselves and others, from the most beginning to the more advanced levels. Always maintaining a beginner’s mind, we find that the possibilities are endless, and the results are life changing. Feel free to mix these classes however you like. In their own home practice, these teachers usually alternate their daily focus by doing abdominals and lower body one day and spine flexibility and shoulder integration the next. They like to mix up their mindfulness training with seated meditation, walking, hiking, weights, and biking.
These classes are meant to be used for the purpose of taking time to work intensively with your body or with the bodies of your students. Rather than flowing, like many yoga classes, this work is slow and static giving the user more time to breathe, feel and understand and notice the details of the work. Desirée and Andrew recommend that you alternate your yoga practice between flow classes and practices such as these with longer holds and introspection for the best results. Work intensively and then you will be able to truly enjoy the fruits of your labor.
You may notice that these teachers sometimes use Savasana as their cool down. This is not always recommended for everyone, so they have included a brief cool down video that you can use to unwind your body before resting. The interesting thing to note is that in reality, Desirée and Andrew, at age 60, can honestly cool down in Savasana because they are always moving in optimal alignment. There is never a time when they are moving in a way that is not good for their body, so the body responds by allowing them to play or rest as they wish.
